Rating Nice for a good old tone
  If you search strings for a good old tone, like J. Jamerson, flatwound is the solution. Old school slap is possible. Very smooth "touch" and feeling allows wonderful glissando. If you play different styles, theses strings aren't multipurpose.

Rating Still one of my "Flatwound Favorites"
  I have been using D'Addario Chromes on my Precision Basses, and other "vintage" instruments for several years. I also have used a shorter-scale version of these strings on a 31" scale Birdsong Cortobass. They remain among my favorite flatwound bass strings (in a virtual dead-heat with the far more expensive TI Jazz Flats), and I receive lots of compliments on these strings from others with whom I play, as well as from my bass instructor. When you add in the great pricing and superb customer service from Bass Strings Online, you can't go wrong with these strings!

Rating Ecky Thump
  I decided I would try some flats on some of my instruments after learning that Juan Alderete was using some (to say nothing of the rich and incredible of music recorded using flats!) so I tried these. Amazing! Really brought to life one bass I was feeling very uncertain about (a P-bass if you must know), saved that particular instrument and started me on a string quest for each of my 'girls'. Rich lows and muted highs (especially once they were broken in somewhat) suitable for all kinds of music in my opinion; I've used these strings for everything from folk, free jazz to country pop and metal. No lack of sustain either which was something i was initially concerned about. A lovely very useful and musical string.

Rating ECB81S - Short Scale Chromes
  I bought a set of these XL Chromes in short scale for my nephew's Ibanez GSRM20 Mikro Bass. They fit the 28.6" scale perfectly and are everything you'd expect from your standard D'Addario Chromes. They tuned up without any hassle, produce great tone, and the best part is the silky smooth polished flatwound ribbon doesn't destroy his tender fingertips like roundwounds do.
