Rotosound Jazz Bass 77 Monel Flatwound electric bass strings produce a unique tone for Flatwound bass strings.

Construction:
  • Monel Flat Wound
Balanced, Bright, Punchy
I put the hybrid set on my home-made fretless jazz bass. Man, these strings sing. Finger noise is non-existent, harmonics are retained, and my fingerboard isn't being gouged! The tone is similar to RS66s, which I regularly use on my fretted, except for a little lower output and a bit less top-end. The mids are clear and punchy, not wonky or scooped. The jazz bridge pickup solo'd, tone knob halfway, you cannot go wrong. For flats, they are not perfectly smooth, but they're pretty much a roundwound/halfwound tone in a flatwound package, so a tad bit of smoothness is sacrificed for tone. I personally like the little bit of texture. I play progressive rock, jazz, fusion, classical, etc and these do half the job for me. I've heard these also work great on P-bass, fretted, and pretty much anything else. Great strings!

Rotosound Jazz Bass 77
These strings are versatile. You can get good thump out of them but they are not as warm as LaBellas or Chromes. The attacks are crisp and clear. If you raise your tone knob up, you can get them to clank. A good compromise.

This is The Sound
I can't imagine how a bass guitar can sound and feel better than my Yamaha B414 does with these babies on. Deep and focused, articulate and versatile like no other string I've tried. All for less money than a regular pack of uninspiring, ephemeral roundwounds would cost in a store here. Bliss!

Excellent, but not my favorite
I'm mostly a guitarist, I'm just beginning to explore the feel of the various brands and and types of strings. These Rotosounds are excellent, but I prefer the pliability and smooth-as-glass feel of LaBella flats. It's strictly my taste, the Rotosounds are a great choice if you like a tight feel to your strings. I'm not referring to tension, but rigidity. These strings don't seem to 'give' against the frets when you're playing.
